-Cultures coming together

-Tuakana/Teina - Older supporting/Nuturing Younger

-Growth of interior Koru representing knowledge gained

Tuinga-Tahi Name

To sew together the cultures in our group so that we may sing as one voice.  This name was given to us by local Murihiku kaumatua -  Koro Riki Cherrington, who also blessed all the taonga given to the children.

 Tuinga-Tahi Song

This song was written by Mrs Raiha Johnson, especially for the children of Tuinga-Tahi to represent their journey – in learning kapa haka and knowledge about the Maori culture,

A direct translation can never give full justice to the meaning behind the words, but this is what it means.

 Our journey is just beginning,

 As we come together,

As Tuinga-Tahi,

To sing as one voice

Hold on to the knowledge

Learn the Maori customs (tikanga),

From this love will grow,

As Tuinga-Tahi, as one voice

From knowledge we gain strength,

And feel fulfilment in our spirit,

Stand tall young leaders,

And the world will be yours…

Tuinga-Tahi is Waverley Park's Kapa Haka performance group.  The group was formed from the 120 strong Kapa Haka Group..  Tuinga-Tahi started in March 2009 and is lead by Raiha Johnson.

The children practice every Thursday after school to get ready for any up and coming events.

Thanks to the support of the businesses below and a fantastic committee the group now have uniforms to wear when they perform.  They look fantastic.
